Flying Giraffes: How Nonviolent Communication Can Help Young People Spread Their Wings is an Erasmus+ training course designed to support youth workers in developing creative and engaging approaches to teaching emotional intelligence, empathy, and communication skills to teenagers.
The project explores how Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can be experienced through playful and experiential methods. It emphasizes expressing feelings and needs beyond words, using movement, theatre, games, and other forms of creative expression.
Participants gain practical, hands-on tools to help young people better understand their emotions, recognize their needs, and build healthy, respectful relationships.
Flying Giraffes also creates a space for youth workers already practicing NVC to exchange experiences, share methods, and expand their repertoire of interactive approaches. Through collaboration and co-creation, participants strengthen a supportive international community that continues beyond the duration of the training.
The main objectives of the project include:
- Equip youth workers with practical, play-based activities they can use in their daily work with young people;
- Create and share easy-to-use tools for teaching empathy and communication to teenagers;
- Support teenagers in learning how to express feelings and needs in respectful and constructive ways;
- Build a supportive community of youth workers who can exchange ideas and learn from each other;
- Strengthen cooperation between organizations working to promote emotional well-being and healthy communication across Europe.
Project Flying Giraffes is implemented thanks to funding from the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, which promotes international cooperation and the development of key competencies in youth work.
