The international training Roots of Peace was a 7-day training course designed for experienced Nonviolent Communication (NVC) practitioners who wanted to deepen their skills in conflict resolution and mediation. The program combined NVC with somatic practices supporting emotional regulation, bringing together participants from six European countries and creating an inspiring environment for learning, experience exchange, and collaboration.
During the training, participants practiced how to hold space for two people simultaneously and how to support others in finding mutual understanding, developing their mediation skills based on NVC.
The project allowed participants to explore conflicts more deeply, learn to analyze them, and practice mediation using NVC. Through workshops, role-playing exercises, reflection, and somatic practices, participants learned to respond with empathy, transform tensions into constructive dialogue, and strengthen trust and collaboration within groups.
As Marshall Rosenberg reminds us:
“All conflicts can be resolved when people feel heard and understood.”
We implemented the Roots of Peace project with the support of the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, which promotes international cooperation and the development of key skills for youth work. As part of the project, we created a practical booklet containing exercises to develop empathy, communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills in youth work. We also organized a webinar on conflict resolution using Nonviolent Communication to share the project’s outcomes, inspire others, and promote the values of empathy and peaceful dialogue across Europe.
