Play is not “just fun.”
In Jaak Panksepp’s affective neuroscience, PLAY is one of the brain’s primary emotional systems—a neural circuit that supports connection, flexibility, learning, resilience, and social trust.
And yet, in many adult lives, especially in work, parenting, leadership, and intimate relationships, play often disappears first.
During this webinar, we will explore the PLAY circuit through the lens of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Together, we will discover why play requires a sense of safety, how joy differs from entertainment or performance, and how a playful presence can soften tension, open space for dialogue, and support our needs for connection, freedom, creativity, ease, and belonging.
We will also ask:
- What happens to our relationships when play is absent?
- Why do we sometimes lose access to lightness, curiosity, and spontaneity?
- How can sharing NVC help us bring play back without forcing it, bypassing pain, or pretending everything is okay?
- Where playfulness can support sharing and learning NVC?
This webinar is for people who want to understand play not as a luxury, but as a deep human need and a powerful doorway to empathy, regulation, and more alive relationships.
It is a result of the Erasmus + training course “Flying Giraffes” that took place in Poland in June 2026.
For whom is this webinar?
Youth workers, teachers, educators, facilitators.

Trainer:
Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez
Paulina dreams of a world where authenticity, empathy, honesty, and dialogue are present not only in close relationships, but also in workplaces, schools, healthcare, and social life. She brings this vision into practice as a Certified Trainer of Nonviolent Communication and eduScrum, coach, mentor, mediator, Resonant Healing Practitioner, and MindSonar Analyst.
In her work, Paulina supports leaders, teachers, physicians, teams, organizations, and individual clients in building relationships rooted in empathy, trust, clarity, and care. She is especially interested in how we can meet emotions with more awareness and kindness — not by suppressing them, but by listening to the needs and values they point to.
Her main areas of work include empathic communication and conflict navigation, diversity and inclusion, intercultural communication, interpersonal neurobiology, agility in education, psychological safety, wellbeing and resilience. She collaborates with Fundacja Mudita, co-creates the Empathic Way Europe team and the non-profit campaigns #WidzęCzłowieka and Marathon of Empathy.
Paulina works in Polish, English, and Spanish. You may notice sparks in her eyes when she reads Latin American literature, listens to world music, or spends time in connection with Nature — especially while walking in the mountains.
